"The bombs"

Yesterday and even today there have been incidents in London all too reminiscent of the July 7th bombings. Two days ago we returned from a long weekend near the capital, in which we ambled around Stonehenge, explored the house and grounds of Cliveden (or Cliefden) estate on the chalky cliffs overlooking the Thames near Maidenhead, spent an entire day exhausting ourselves at Legoland amusement park, and even managed a visit to the Queen's weekend retreat, Windsor Castle.

Shortly before our trip Kassie expressed reservations about spending time in and around London due to "the bombs" which she attributes to animosity over London winning the Olympic bid. We did not tell her of the bombings; she learned of them at school, either in the playground or from her teachers. Obviously we can no longer shield her from events such as these, and indeed we must not only adequately inform her but also urge her to continue to live life without fear. Imagine all the fun she would have missed by staying safely at home.

Unfortunately, "The bombs" reminded me of when a close friend and his wife and I were in Atlanta, Georgia USA during the 1996 Olympics. After attending Ladies Volleyball, we walked around the new Centennial Olympic Park. This was the park where the bomb went off near a concert stage. If I'm not mistaken, we were there the same day just hours before the tragic event.

Anyway, I would definitely say, "Live life to the fullest! Don't let bad people scare you. Learn to accept the fact that there will always be bad people. But, as long as you are good, you can influence others for the greater good."

I've been to Hot'lanta (nicknamed for Atlanta's heat and humidity (or as Dad says, "'humdrum'-ity")) many times since and never think of the crime that seems to happen on a daily, if not an hourly basis. But, hey, that's life in The Big City. That's why we like living in the country.

Cheers,

Hi there!

Just wanted to comment on your stonehenge piccie.

Awesome, innit?

I went to stonehenge 2004 for the first time with my friend that lives in London, me being from Chicago. The day was electric and going to stonehenge was icing on the proverbial cake as Ive always wanting to go there since I first head of the phenomena! It was that day when my friend and I realized we had mutual thoughts of affection for one another and have been dating since.

So, Stonehenge has more of a meaning for me.

Yay stones!!

:-P
