I'll skip the usual plethora of excuses and dive right in. I stole this list from Amanda Ashby. I find it fascinating.

The Big Read, an initiative by the National Endowment for the Arts, has estimated that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. How do you do?
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.

Not all that great for someone with a degree in English language and literature. Perhaps what's more telling is the fact that very few of the books I haven't read are on my to-read list!

What is most interesting, to me at least, are those books left off the list. I suppose in the end it's a matter of personal choice. In any case, I may give the subject some thought and get back to you with my list of the top 10 books omitted from the list. Fahrenheit 451 springs to mind, as does Tom Sawyer, Black Beauty, and, for a recent work, Cormac McCarthy's The Road.
