Rush to the shops
A friend of mine has just had her first novel published. I for one can't wait to read Amanda Ashby's You Had Me at Halo, published just two days ago by Signet.
Here is the blurb: "Holly Evans has just seen her body laid to rest. Now she would like to move on to the afterlife. But apparently she has some mortal baggage to unload first, starting with the matter of how she died. Her heavenly shrink isn't buying that she didn't kill herself and says she must return to earth to straighten things out. The thing is, she needs to borrow the body of computer geek Vince Murphy to do it. Oh, and although Vince was supposed to have vacated the premises, he apparently never got the memo.
Now, Holly has forty-eight hours to resolve her issues while sharing arms, legs, and...other things...with a guy she barely noticed while she was alive. But the real surprise is what life has to offer when you have only two days to live it."
Publisher's Weekly is saying: "It's The Lovely Bones meets Bridget Jones in this fluffy take on what happens after death...it's a fun, witty traipse through the afterlife."
I'm sold.

I know--I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I can't wait to see how it all plays out--especially the "sharing other body parts" part. :)
I can't wait either.
I was a bit miffed to find out that I couldn't simply waltz into my favourite bookshop and buy Amanda's book. In fact, before rushing downtown with daughter in tow, I called first Chapters, then Indigo, to see whether either had the book in stock. To my dismay, I discovered that neither bookstore has plans to stock the book.
What does a writer have to do to get his/her book on the shelf? You'd think all the great reviews would do the trick!
Amanda is running a contest over at her blog for those who send her a photo of her book in-store. Good luck!
I'm having the same trouble--I ordered mine with Amazon b/c Chapters isn't stocking it. Ahh, the world of mega-stores.
Awh, thanks so much guys - I really appreciate all the support and the book ordering. As for how it all plays out, well my lips are sealed!!
